This is a well defined, sculptural pseudomorph. Malachite completely replaces the original azurite, while maintaining the elongated bladed crystal habit of Azurite in remarkable detail. Composed of tightly intergrown crystals, they radiate and overlap in several directions, giving it an artful composition.
A pseudomorph forms when one mineral replaces another while retaining the original mineral’s crystal shape. In this case, malachite has replaced the azurite, but the original azurite crystal form is still preserved.
