This is a serious double terminated quartz from Aït Ahmane, part of Morocco’s celebrated Bou Azzer mining district. The locality is better known for its cobalt and nickel mineralisation, but it's also produced some excellent quartz, including beautifully formed crystals from the numbered vein systems around Aït Ahmane.
At just over 7cm long, this is a lovely size for a free standing double terminated crystal. The quartz has a chunky, highly textured growth that leans towards a Jacaré style, with stepped secondary crystallisation. The lustre is excellent, and the slight frostiness actually makes the repeated growth patterns easier to enjoy i hand.
The crystallisation continues almost completely around the specimen, so there's very little sense of a conventional front and back. Both terminations are well developed, and the dense surface growth gives the piece a wonderfully tactile, almost sculpted appearance from every angle.
