This ferruginous quartz cluster comes from one of the classic and best-known localities in the world for red quartz - the Orange River in Southern Africa. Material from this region has been highly sought after by collectors for decades, particularly when the colour is strong and the crystals are well formed.
This specimen comes from what we consider the best production we've seen from the region in a number of years. The colour is exceptionally saturated, with vivid orange red hematite concentrated through the lower portions of the crystals while many of the upper termination faces remain comparatively clear. That contrast exposes the internal growth structure beautifully and gives the cluster far more depth than a uniformly coated example.
The crystal coverage is dense and highly dimensional, with repeated sharp terminations, strong lustre and intricate internal patterning visible throughout. At 70mm across and 152g, it is also a substantial example of the material, with a strong presence that makes for an incredibly vibrant cabinet accent.
