Minerals:  Quartz with Actinolite
Locality: Ganesh Himal, district de Dhading, Province n°3, Nepal
Dimensions:  112mm x 13mm x 15mm (approx)
Weight: 23.4g
Provenance: ex. Mala Haslem Collection

This remarkably slender quartz crystal from Ganesh Himal is heavily included with dark actinolite, and has developed into an unusually elongated, almost needle like form.

The crystal is dominated by a single narrow prism with a sharply tapered termination and strong longitudinal growth. Dense actinolite inclusions run through much of the quartz, giving the specimen a dark graphite grey appearance overall, while thinner areas allow flashes of translucency to show through beneath the surface. From some angles the inclusions appear almost solid, while others reveal that much of the colour is held internally within the quartz.

The proportions are particularly unusual. At 112mm long but only around 13 to 15mm across, the crystal has an exceptionally fine profile, with clean tapering through each end and a strong sense of uninterrupted vertical growth. Subtle surface striations and natural texture remain visible along the prism faces, adding further definition without obscuring the form.

Ganesh Himal is one of Nepal’s classic quartz localities, well known for chlorite, actinolite and other mineral inclusions within sharply formed alpine type crystals. This example is especially appealing for the combination of extreme elongation, dense internal actinolite and the unusually complete, spear like form.
