Lemurian Quartz, Brazil
Lemurian Quartz, Brazil
Minerals: 'Lemurian' Quartz
Locality: Serra do Cabral, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Dimensions: 85mm x 30mm x 25mm (approx)
Weight: 62g
Provenance: ex. Mala Haslem Collection
Here is a beautifully formed Lemurian quartz from Serra do Cabral, the classic Brazilian locality associated with the original Lemurian material. The crystal has the striated alternating faces, tapered form, satin lustre and excellent internal clarity characteristic of the locality, with subtle rainbows appearing when the light hits at the perfect angle.
What makes this example especially interesting is the phantom growth. A sharply defined internal phantom sits near the base of the crystal, with another much softer phantom rising through the upper section toward the termination. The lower phantom is particularly clear and well formed, giving the otherwise transparent crystal a distinct internal structure that remains easy to see in normal light.
This specimen came from a small pocket of phantom bearing crystals found around 2023. Of the pieces we saw from that pocket, this was the strongest example, with the lower phantom showing considerably more definition than the others while still retaining the clean form and restrained surface character associated with Serra do Cabral quartz.
