This nearly colourless double terminated calcite has a beautifully geometric form, but much of the interest lies on the reverse, where a concentrated growth of hematite sits alongside a small section of embedded matrix.
From this side, multiple generations of growth become much more apparent. The calcite develops in overlapping planes and sharply defined geometric forms, creating a complex structure. Against the relative clarity of the calcite, the darker hematite and matrix provide a strong contrast and give the piece considerably more depth.
There's something particularly satisfying about the dual nature of this specimen. From the front it presents as a clean, sculptural calcite, while the reverse reveals a far more complex story of growth, mineral association and texture.
