The Huanzala Mine is one of Peru’s great classic polymetallic localities, particularly celebrated for exceptionally lustrous pyrite and beautifully composed sulphide associations. Galena and sphalerite are both well represented in the deposit, and combinations of all three minerals have become highly recognisable among collectors of Peruvian material.
This specimen is beautifully composed, with an incredibly geometric arrangement of galena, pyrite and sphalerite creating a strong contrast between silver and gold. The galena is especially striking, with highly reflective faces and sensational etched textures across the surface.
Closer inspection reveals incredibly fine geometric patterns, with lines, terraces and repeated forms that are almost reminiscent of a microchip or algorithmic design. The effect is absolutely mesmerising.
Golden pyrite adds another layer of colour and structure, while darker sphalerite sits between the larger metallic crystals and gives the piece additional depth. Huanzala is particularly well known for this kind of strong sulphide contrast and highly reflective crystal growth.
At nearly half a kilogram, it has serious cabinet presence. A sensational Huanzala piece with strong geometry, exceptional lustre and extraordinary surface detail.
