Fluorite with Geocronite, Milpo Mine, Peru
Minerals: Fluorite, Geocronite, Pyrite
Locality: Milpo mine, Atacocha mining district, Cerro de Pasco, Pasco province, Pasco, Peru
Dimensions: 66mm x 50mm x 22mm
Weight: 130g
This is a particularly substantial fluorite specimen from a recent May 2026 production at the Milpo Mine in Peru, with vivid green colour, excellent crystallisation and an unusually rich jelly like quality through the crystals. At 130g, the piece feels impressively large in hand for the locale, with a dense three dimensional cluster of fluorite crystals
The fluorite forms as a dense cluster of well developed crystals, showcasing heavily modified octahedral crystals, with broad stepped faces and truncated edges creating a complex, almost sculptural geometry. The crystals exibit excellent transparency and a rich, shade of vivid emerald green.
Several of the larger fluorite crystals are accented by metallic coatings of geocronite, creating a striking contrast against the fluorite beneath. Small areas of pyrite are also present through the matrix and between the fluorite, adding another layer of detail to an already complex mineral association.
When backlit the specimen becomes especially impressive, with the fluorite glowing an intense electric green and revealing the depth and clarity within individual crystals. The jelly like quality is particularly apparent in these conditions, giving the piece an almost luminous appearance. A truly spectacular piece from this celebrated locality.
