A pseudomorph forms when one mineral replaces another but retains the external shape of the original crystal. In this case, feldspar has replaced epidote while keeping the long, strongly striated crystal form that the epidote originally developed.
This specimen is an excellent example, because the replacement is complete enough that the mineral itself has changed, yet the original habit remains incredibly clear. Multiple elongated crystals rise together in a tight cluster, with strong parallel growth, deep striations and sharply preserved form across the piece.
The surface is heavily textured, with soft cream, mint and soft shades of peach settle into the grooves and along the edges of the crystals. Pseudomorphs are fascinating because they preserve two geological events within a single specimen, the formation of the original crystal and the later process that replaced it. This one does that particularly well, with an unusually clear original form and a beautifully complete replacement.
