Calcite stalactites from Alzada in Montana are classic American locality material, and examples from the older finds have become increasingly difficult to source. These pieces were collected during the 1970s, when locality collecting across the western United States was producing many of the specimens that now circulate through old collections rather than through fresh mining.
Here we have a beautifully matched pair, both with strong, vibrant colour and distinctly stalactitic growth. The two pieces complement each other especially well, with subtle differences in shape and proportion while still presenting clearly as a set.
Both were self collected by Bud Ehrle in the 1970s, giving them a direct connection to the period in which this material was being actively collected. As older American locality specimens continue to move into established collections, pieces with documented early provenance are becoming harder to replace.
A wonderful little pair with strong colour, classic locality appeal and excellent old collection provenance.

Yes. Unless a listing is clearly marked as a multiple quantity product like Mineral Tac, the specimen shown in the photographs is the exact piece you will receive.
What happens if a specimen sells while I'm checking out?
Most pieces are unique and available in a quantity of one. A specimen is only secured once checkout has been completed successfully.
Do you combine shipping?
Yes. If you purchase multiple specimens, we'll combine them into one shipment wherever practical. Any excess shipping charged at checkout can be refunded once your order is packed.
Are repairs or restorations disclosed?
Yes. Any known repair, restoration, reattachment or treatment is stated in the listing.
Can I purchase a specimen as a gift?
