This unusual aragonite is part of a relatively new find from the Kharan District of Balochistan, Pakistan, and has quickly become one of the more distinctive recent forms of the species to appear in 2026. Some of the finer examples have already attracted considerable attention, particularly for their unusual axial growth and highly sculptural form.
As someone with a particular personal interest in faden quartz, axial growth and persistent linear structures, this material immediately fascinated me, and I have acquired several specimens from the find for my own collection. The growth is completely different to faden quartz, of course, but there's something similarly compelling in the way the crystals organise themselves around a strong central axis.
This specimen has a wonderful three dimensional form, with slim aragonite crystals projecting in multiple directions from an elongated central structure, almost like a mineral stalactite. The individual crystals vary in length and orientation, giving the piece an organic, artistic form, while closer inspection reveals how strongly the entire composition is organised around that single axis.
There's also a subtle sparkle across the surface that has been particularly difficult to capture in photographs. In person, the fine crystal faces catch the light beautifully, adding another layer of texture to an already very striking piece.
Delicate by nature, but with extraordinary sculptural presence, this is a fascinating example from a new find that I suspect we'll be hearing much more about.
