This is a substantial old stock baryte from Bou Nahas, a Moroccan mine that produced some superb blue to green baryte over multiple periods, including documented finds from 2011, 2014, 2018 and again in 2022. Material from the mine presents as bluish, greenish and sometimes yellow, and is often associated with quartz, pyrite and marcasite.
The colour on this piece is subtle but lovely, sitting in a pale blue green range with large bladed crystals. The underside is completely different, with vivid red inclusions and coatings concentrated through the lower section.
This is an impressive specimen with excellent cabinet presence, and is far larger than many of the smaller Bou Nahas barytes usually encountered. There's also a very minor long wave UV reaction, which adds another little detail to an already very attractive old stock piece.
