This a beautiful old stock ferruginous quartz is from a historical find at Tinejdad in Morocco. Although only a small miniature, it carries an extraordinary amount of detail and is a particularly lovely example of this classic material.
The translucency is exceptional for Tinejdad. Much of the ferruginous quartz from the locality is relatively opaque, while this piece allows light deep into the crystals and still retains vivid red orange saturation throughout. In natural daylight the larger points take on a gorgeous glowing quality, with intricate iron inclusions visible through the quartz.
The composition is wonderfully sculptural, with one dominant crystal rising above a busy cluster of smaller points. It can be displayed naturally on the matrix base, or mounted on its side with mineral tack for a taller presentation with the iron rich matrix sitting behind the quartz.
