This is a small but astonishingly beautiful ferruginous quartz from Tinejdad, with an intense ombre colour palette that runs from deep smoky brown and almost coal black at the base into glowing ember red and orange through the upper crystals.
Tinejdad is known for deeply saturated iron quartz, although much of the material is fairly opaque. This piece has a gorgeous translucency that gives the quartz a gel like quality, particularly where the red and orange colour is strongest. In natural daylight the colour seems to glow from within, and the darker base makes the upper section feel even more fiery.
The composition is lovely too. The quartz spreads outward on either side in a way that almost gives it a winged form, while the central growth keeps the specimen feeling balanced rather than flat. It sits perfectly on its own and has far more presence than its 50mm size would suggest.
