In person they catch the light in an almost iridescent way, flashing silver as the specimen is moved, with a depth and optical quality that is extremely difficult to capture in photographs.

The form is also far more three dimensional than the camera suggests. Individual blades rise and curl away from the matrix in different directions, creating a very organic composition. Against the red matrix, the calcite is especially striking.

Material of this type has often been sold under the trade name “Mouse Ear”, a reference to its flower like form, and the name suits it well. It's a very dainty, almost feminine expression of calcite, with exceptional texture, soft translucency and a beautiful contrast of colour.

Several customers who have previously acquired material from this find have written afterwards to say the same thing, that it is significantly more impressive in person than in photographs. This specimen is no exception.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1020/1815/4628/files/2DF58572-631E-4BF5-8C4C-AF45A7590FCF.jpg?v=1791420291
