At 210mm long, this is one of the largest elongated crystals we have handled from the mine without the distinctive red hematite rich cap more commonly associated with the material. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe crystal is strongly elongated, with deep violet colour through the lower body becoming progressively lighter toward the termination. Multiple chevron like growth zones are visible internally, creating repeated bands of purple, smoky grey and paler quartz through the length of the specimen. The upper section has a softer violet pink tone and good translucency, while the darker lower portion gives the piece considerable visual depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMaterial sold under the Auralite 23 name is associated with inclusion rich amethyst from this specific Thunder Bay source, although the trade name has since been applied much more broadly in the market. The original material is known for complex internal zoning and a range of minute mineral inclusions within the quartz. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis specimen was chosen for our personal collection because of its unusual scale, strong internal banding and particularly attractive progression of colour from deep smoky violet through to the lighter termination. The real feature of the crystal is the series of internal phantoms that run through the body. These fluoresce strongly under UV light due to powellite, but what makes this specimen particularly unusual is that the phantoms are also clearly visible to the naked eye in normal light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe termination is equally significant. In the natural material we've handled from this locality, complete terminations with a developed hematite cap are exceptionally difficult to find. We have seen occasional partial examples and small areas of hematite coating across individual faces, but nothing with a termination this complete. This is the most fully realised crystal of this material that we've seen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMuch of the Cordeiros production reaches the market polished, so the preservation of the natural crystal form is important in its own right. This material came to international attention during the late 2000s and early 2010s, with original Cave of Wonders specimens generally attributed to mining between roughly 2007 and 2011. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt 195mm long this is one of the longest examples we have encountered from the mine, while still maintaining a proportion and weight that makes it comfortable to handle. The upper section is dominated by a matte hematite cap, with layered growth across the termination and a strong transition into violet and colourless quartz beneath.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe crystal displays repeated chevron phantom bands through the body, with alternating zones of lilac, pale quartz and deeper violet. These layers record successive stages of crystal growth, showcasing a clear record of changing conditions during formation. The Auralite 23 material is generally dated to around 1.2 to 1.5 billion years old, placing its formation deep within the geological history of the Canadian Shield. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Cave of Wonders material became particularly famous for this combination of repeated phantom growth, complex mineral inclusions and hematite rich red caps. The name Auralite 23 itself refers to a group of minerals identified across material from the deposit, although individual crystals do not necessarily contain all 23. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe surface remains naturally textural, allowing the growth bands and changes in colour to remain clearly visible. Most examples of this material are considerably smaller, and most pieces are very often polished to improve clarity and conceal mining damage. What makes this specimen so unusual is that it has survived at this size completely natural, with no polishing and free of damage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe crystal has a long, narrow form that gradually tapers toward the base, while the upper section opens into deep violet amethyst with excellent translucency and bands of chevron smoky phantoms beneath. The termination remains sharply defined, with natural surface growth and subtle textural detail across the faces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIts proportions are especially dramatic in hand. The combination of extreme length, relatively slender width and intact natural form gives the crystal a presence that smaller dragon’s tooth material simply does not have.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor this variety, finding an example of this scale is unusual enough. The upper section carries strong purple colour, excellent translucency and a natural, unpolished termination, while the lower body gradually narrows into a completely natural tail with two separate points.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis double pointed taper gives the specimen a particularly unusual profile. Rather than finishing as a single point, the lower growth divides into two narrow terminations, preserving more of the original crystal structure and making the silhouette far more interesting from different angles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs with the larger dragon’s tooth in this collection, the most remarkable feature is the preservation. Material of this scale is very often polished, while this example remains natural throughout. It's a self-standing crystal with excellent lustre, deeply saturated colour and strong presence for its size.\u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe colour makes the crystal appear jelly-like through the top half, while at the lower portion it transforms into a dense, purple cloud. Within the termination is a sharply defined darker phantom, clearly visible from several angles and intensified when the crystal is backlit. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe main crystal exhibits stepped growth and smaller side development, while the surface has a fine natural texture that catches the light beautifully without interrupting the gloss.
